About Kerala
         India's most Idealic state Kerala situated on the south western edge of the Indian subcontinent. With the Arabian Sea in the west, the western Ghats "sahyadri" towering 500-2700m in the east and networked by the forty four rivers, Kerala enjoys unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in a Asia. CULTURE

                  Malayalam is the regional language, The women mostly subscribe ‘sari’, its six meters of silk , cotton cloths, called ‘sari’. The more convenient dresses like ‘churidar’ The men mostly subscribe to ‘mundu’ , ‘trousers’ and shirts in the rural areas, mundu is the more popular from of dressing. The Hindu Community For nearly 60% of the population. The rest of the 40% is almost equally divided between the ‘Christians’ and the ‘Muslims’


FESTIVALS
   The Hindu temple festivals are colourful and impressive affairs, decorated elephants, beats of the traditional drum ‘Canada’ . Fire work and cultural programs are the main highlights. Kerala is a Land of many Hindu temples. The architecture of this temples generally follows strict rules are by traditional texts this green little state.
       ‘Onam’ is the most typical Kerala Festival. Onam marks the beginning of the ‘Chingam’ (August-September)
      ‘Christmas’ and Ester are the main festivals of Christians. The ‘Ramadan’ and ‘Bukrid’ (idulazha) are the major Muslim festivals 


BACK WATER
             With the Arabian sea in the west and a vast network of lakes, lagoon and fresh water rivers crisscrossing it, Alappuzha is district of immense natural beauty, Referred to as the ‘venise of the East’ by Travellers from across the world. This backwater country is also home to diverse animal and bird life by Virtue of its proximity to the sea, the town has always enjoyed a unique place in the maritime history of Kerala. Kumarakam Between Alappuzha and Kottayam is a prominent bird sanctuary playing host to the water Duck, Cuckoos, Siberian storks among other exotic birds.

NEHRU TROPHY BOAT RACE
Nehru Trophy Boat Race is the most famous of the boat races of Kerala. This annual regatta is held on the Punnamada backwaters of Alappuzha distract on the second Saturday of august. On the day of this fiercely fought boat race, the tranquil lake front is transformed into a sea of humanity with an estimated two Lakh people, including tourists from abroad, coming to watch the event. 


BOAT RACES.
  In alappuzha the land of lakes and rivers, snake boat racing is something of cult. Sleek and immaculately poised, the snake boats are the pride of every village. These race boats dominate the thoughts and actions of the people of this region during the months of august and September, when newly 20 minor and major regattas are held. The water festival in alappuzha is unique. No other country in the world has such festivities.

 
AYURVEDA
Kerala is the place in the world where Ayurveda, the ancient form of science and holistic system of medicine based on nature is practised of perfection. Ayurveda, the system of treatment believed to the older than 5000 years is based on the philosophy, prevention is better than cure however it offers a lasting cure to patients. Suffering form various diseases, but the system teaching as how to achieve.

KERALA WILDLIFE
Kerala has about 30% of its land cover accounted for by Forests. The jungles of Kerala are famous for the elephants and tigers besides other animals like sambar, deer and wild buffalos. Periyal wild life sanctuary, Parimhikulam wild life sanctuary, Eravikulam National Park are the major wild life centers, Kumarakam, Thattekkad, Maladumpara are the main Bird watching centres. The major tourist activities that can be undertaken in the wild parks are wild life tours. Elephant riders, stays at jungle lodges, tree houses fishing camps etc., Guides are available in the periyar wild life sanctuary for treks in the forest. SILENT VALLY NATIONAL PARK
          Area 89 sq. Km, Altitude-658 – 2,383 meter  above sea level, Rainfall – 1624.3 mm Maximum Temperature 390 C, Minimum Temperature – 20.4o C. Best time of visit September to March Located in the Kundali Hills of the western Gats, the Silent Valley National Park holds a valuable reserve of rare plants and herbs. The park is rich in its wildlife, and elephants, lion-tailed  macaques and tigers are the most common denizens of this park. 


KERALA ARTS
    Kerala has a rich tradition in art and dance forms like any land, Kerala also has it own typical art forms, which reflect the life and outlook of the people. ‘Kathakali’ is the most popular dance of the state. It is unique in several features and can be distinguished on the basis of make-up and costumes. It comprises of Both ‘Thandva’ and ‘Lesya’ elements of dancing. Women generally do not participate in this dance.

ALAPPUZHA  (The Venice of the East)
          To label Alappuzha (The Malayalam name for Alleppey) The Venice of the East' might today appear a far etched cliche of travelogue writters, but this quaint little town is certainly the Venice of India. Nowhere else will you find, spread out across the center of town, a unique crisscrossing network of canals on which thatch covered country boats punt along leisurely. The proximity of lakes adds to the Tenetian ambience.
